Halloween Is Here ~ Our Halloween Happenings

Halloween is such a fun and exciting time for the children.  They look forward to it.  For weeks, the talk in our classrooms was all about the costumes they would be wearing this year.

In the days before our big party, the children made a Halloween craft.

The children helped carve pumpkins for the classrooms.

Finally, the big day arrived!  The children looked so adorable in their costumes.

The children handed out Halloween treats to their classmates.

All of the children at our little yellow school got together to share a Halloween feast.  It was lovely to see them mixing and mingling.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Ladybugs Are Everywhere!

Earlier in October, the full day children were enjoying a warm and sunny recess in our 'soccer field' at the back of our property.  Much to our surprise and delight, our 'soccer field' had become a playing field for dozens and dozens of ladybugs!  They were flying here, there and everywhere!

Why were there so many ladybugs and why were they so interested in our playground?  Each fall, the children learn about hibernation and migration.  Some of our older students remembered that ladybugs hibernate!  But where did they want to hibernate?  Although the ladybugs were getting into our hair and our coats, we soon discovered their hibernation destination.

Many ladybugs are now cozily resting in our shed for the winter.  We had so much fun chasing, catching and releasing them.  We hope they have a good winter and we look forward to seeing them again in the spring.

A Perfect Morning ~ Our Fall Field Trip

The children, teachers, parents and grandparents of our little yellow school recently went on a field trip to a local outdoor education centre.

The children had been anticipating this trip for weeks as we would be riding in a school bus!  There was much excitement as we awaited the arrival of the bus.

Waiting For The Bus

The day called for some morning rain and the clouds looked ominous.  By the time the bus arrived, the sky had cleared.

When we arrived at our destination, we made our way over to the barn.

Walking To The Barn

The Barn

Inside the barn, we learned a little bit about pumpkins.  We already knew a lot about pumpkins as we had been learning about pumpkins and the life cycle of a pumpkin at our little yellow school.  Our instructors were very impressed with the children's knowledge and the insightful questions that they asked.

Answering a Question

We learned a new song.

The most amazing thing we learned was that all pumpkins can float!  Did you know that?

In the barn, the children all helped make scarecrows to take back to school with us.  It was fun!

Our morning came to an end and we walked back to our bus to make the journey back to our little yellow school.

Our scarecrows were also making the journey to school with us.  Once back at school, we placed them by our entrance where they happily greet us each morning.

It was such a perfect morning! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us.  It wouldn't have been the same without you.
