Cock-A-Doodle-Do ~ It's The Year Of The Rooster!

The children at our little yellow school celebrated the Chinese New Year today.  It's the Year of the Rooster.  When the children arrived at school this morning, they were delighted to see the Chinese New Year decorations adorning our classrooms. Excitement was in the air!

Ms. W. gave a lovely presentation to help us all learn a little bit more about this fascinating holiday.  She began by reading us a story about the new year.

A Chinese New Year Story

She had many items to share with us.

The Chinese New Year Table

She told us about lai see, lucky money envelopes.

She explained the Chinese Zodiac and showed us all the animals in the zodiac.  At our little yellow school, we have rabbits (2011), dragons (2012),  snakes (2013) and horses (2014)!

After her presentation, Ms. W. invited the children to examine the Chinese New Year items.

Some of our students were dressed for the new year.  They looked so beautiful!

Three year old J. brought in a traditional Chinese vest for the children to try on. Everyone wanted a turn.  We looked fabulous!

Some children brought in treats for snack.

They also brought in treats for their classmates to take home.

We had a wonderful day celebrating Chinese New Year.  Days like these remind us of how very fortunate we are to live in a country that celebrates the diversity of its citizens.  Happy New Year ~ Gung Hay Fat Choy!
