A Morning With Mad Science

Earlier this month, Mad Science came to spend the morning with us at our little yellow school.  At school, we are currently learning about outer space.  Our 'mad scientist', Dr. G., put on a space workshop for us.

Dr. G. began by asking us if we could name the planets in order from the sun.  Oh yes, we could!  The children were very excited and eager to tell Dr. G. the names.  Once a child named the next planet, they were given a ball representing the relative size of the planet compared to the other planets.  Jupiter was the largest.  It was a basketball!

We then pretended to be astronauts on the moon.  We took turns collecting moon rocks with gloves and tongs.  We placed our moon rocks in a bucket to take back to Earth.

We worked together in groups to put together a puzzle of a rocket.

It was now time to make our own rockets.  The older children helped hand out the supplies.

The rockets were able to blast off when the children blew air into the straws.  It was great fun!

Thank you, Mad Science, for your visit!  We had a 'blast' and learned so much!
