Gung Hay Fat Choy! ~ Happy Chinese New Year 2014

On January 31, we celebrated Chinese New Year at our little yellow school.  Our classrooms looked very festive with red and gold decorations brightening up the dull winter days.

On the new year, some of the children came dressed in traditional Chinese clothing.

A., the little girl at the far right of the picture, wrote a story about Chinese New Year.

Her story reads "At Chinese New Year people come to my house.  I give them candy."  It didn't take us long to decide that we all wanted to go to A.'s house for the candy!

In the classroom, the teachers set out some Chinese items for the children to explore.

On the Practical Life shelves, the teachers set out a pompom transferring activity using training chopsticks.

The training chopsticks have rubber rings to help children with the placement of their fingers.

It is a very challenging activity that all of the children enjoy working with.

At the end of the day, the children took home their own lai see, lucky red envelope.
